“2 Days to Fitness”
I wanted to let you know a little about a book called “2 Days to Fitness”.
When I first heard the title I thought to myself “Yeah, right…another clever marketing idea”. I mean, how on earth am I (or you) going to get fit in just 2 days, right?
Well, normally I ignore these types of claims but this time I didn’t. Why, you ask?
Because I know the authors of this book and I know they are not clever marketers out to make a buck selling whatever they can to anyone. No, in fact Dr. Weatherby and Dr. Grisanti have been mentors of mine for some time and are two outstanding doctors. So I decided to download the book and read it because I knew if they were behind it then it would be good. Sure enough, not only was it good, it was outstanding. The information in this book changed the way I exercise and changed the way my patients now exercise as well.
Here’s the basic idea of the book…as we age, in order to lose weight exercising and in order to get in shape, you MUST change your metabolism. As all of us know, once you pass the age of 40 it becomes increasingly harder and harder to lose weight and stay fit. This is largely due to the slowing of our metabolism. Those who spend hours and hours at the gym going at a slow/ steady pace WILL NOT alter their metabolism and will experience only marginal results. The answer to losing weight by exercise is to substitute intensity for time. In other words, much less time at the gym BUT much more energy expended.
I now spend no more than 40 minutes in the gym twice a week and am getting in better shape than I have been in quite some time. It’s truly a remarkable way to exercise and I highly recommend to those interested in exercise and especially those who are trying to lose weight.
